Photo tools

Photo tools for your Windows PC or Mac.

Sort years of photos into easy folders and clear out duplicate copies. Works with iPhone photos (HEIC). Your photos stay on your computer. Both photo tools are paid: they come with Home Tech Helper Premium ($2.99 a month) or IT Toolkit Pro ($9.99 a month).

  • IT Toolkit Pro: $9.99 per month. Includes both photo tools and the full MNT Toolbox.
  • Renews every month until you cancel. You pay through PayPal, and PayPal charges the monthly price automatically each month until you cancel.
  • Cancel any time: in your PayPal account under Automatic payments, or email Service@mntmyneighborhoodtech.com and we’ll cancel it for you. Cancelling stops future charges.

Organize your photos

MNT Photo Sorter

Point it at a folder of photos. It puts them into easy folders for you:

  • By date: a folder for each year and month
  • By place: country, state and city, from the photo’s location (no internet used)
  • By animal: Horses, Cats and Dogs
  • By person (only if you turn it on): it groups photos of the same face, you type a name once, and that person gets their own folder
  • iPhone (HEIC) photos: sorted along with your other photos, and shown in the preview
  • Safe: it makes copies and leaves your originals where they are. You see a preview before anything happens, and Undo puts things back

Faces are compared on your computer only. Nothing is uploaded. The first time you sort by animals or people it downloads its recognition files once (about 90 to 130 MB).

What you need for the Photo Sorter: a Windows 10 or 11 PC (64-bit), or a Mac with an Apple chip (M1 or newer) and macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. It does not run on Intel Macs or older macOS. Have one of those? Call or text us.

Clear out extra copies

MNT Duplicate Photo Finder

Finds the same photo saved more than once, so you can clear out the extra copies:

  • Finds exact copies, plus near-copies: resized, re-saved, lightly edited, or burst shots
  • Shows each group of matching photos side by side
  • Suggests which copy to keep (the best quality, then the oldest). You choose
  • Works with JPG, PNG, HEIC (iPhone), TIFF, WebP, GIF and BMP
  • Safe: nothing is removed until you say yes, and it only moves photos to the Recycle Bin or Trash, so you can put them back
  • Saves a report on your Desktop showing what it moved and how much space you got back

It never sends your photos anywhere. Also part of the MNT Toolbox (IT Toolkit Pro).

What you need for the Duplicate Photo Finder: a Windows 10 or 11 PC, or a Mac with macOS 11 Big Sur or newer (Apple chip or Intel).

About iPhone (HEIC) photos

On a Mac there is nothing extra to install. On Windows, iPhone photos need two add-ons from the Microsoft Store: the free “HEIF Image Extensions” and “HEVC Video Extensions” (Microsoft may charge $0.99 for that one). The tools check for them and tell you what is missing. They never install anything themselves. Photos that can’t be opened are still sorted by date and place.

  2. On your Windows PC or Mac, open the app in your web browser. Already subscribed on your phone? Use “I already subscribed” on the subscribe page to restore it.
  3. Download the tool from inside the app: in Home Tech Helper tap Sort my photos or Duplicate photos; in IT Toolkit Pro open the Tools tab.
  4. Open the download with the steps below.

How to open your download.

Our tools are not signed by Microsoft or Apple yet, so your computer shows a warning the first time you open one. That is normal. Here is what to click.

On Windows

  1. Download the tool from the app. The zip file goes to your Downloads folder.
  2. Right-click the zip file and choose Extract All, then click Extract. (Don’t open the tool from inside the zip.)
  3. In the new folder, double-click the file that ends in .cmd (for example MNT-Toolbox.cmd or MNT-PhotoSorter.cmd).
  4. If a blue box says “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
  5. Answer the questions on the screen. Reports are saved to your Desktop. Most tools also keep a small log in C:\ProgramData\MNT-TuneUp.

On a Mac

  1. Download the tool from the app. Double-click the zip file in your Downloads folder to open it.
  2. In the new folder, double-click the file that ends in .command (for example MNT-Toolbox-Mac.command).
  3. If your Mac says it was “Not Opened”, click Done.
  4. Open the Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security. Scroll down and click Open Anyway, then Open Anyway again, and enter your Mac password or use Touch ID. You only do this once.
  5. Still blocked? Open Terminal (press Command+Space and type Terminal), type bash and a space, drag the .command file into the window, and press Return.
  6. Answer the questions on the screen. Reports are saved to your Desktop. Some tools also keep a small log in your Library/Logs folder, and the Duplicate Photo Finder saves your choices to Downloads.

  1. Tap Open the app above. It opens in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.

Android phone or tablet

  1. Tap Open the app above. It opens in Chrome.
  2. Tap the menu button (three dots in the top corner).
  3. Tap Add to Home screen or Install app, then confirm.
